The emails from male webcam models keep coming in.  Here’s some questions I got from a Livejasmin performer :

“Hi Luke my name is Oscar and I’m currently a male webcam model I work for LiveJasmin, and I am also a full college student.

I read you Ebook and it has helped me a lot but I still feel insecure about a lot of things for an instance every time I debate on whether I should get on with a shirt on or not, wear underwear or shorts, whether I should be in bed or somewhere else.

It’s kind of frustrating for me and it has deprive me from working every day, I usually take days before I get on cam again due to my insecurities.   So I’d love for you to give me any advice to help me overcome my problems and enjoy working on cam for once.

Thank you so much, Oscar”

Oscar’s insecurities are common.  In fact, many webcam performers still experience “cam shyness” even after months of working online.

First, the easy questions:

“every time I debate on whether I should get on with a shirt on or not, wear underwear or shorts, whether I should be in bed or somewhere else.”

Don’t worry about these things too much.  As a general rule, it’s best to Mix It Up to keep your visitors curious and coming back.  It’s okay to wear a shirt, but if you got a good body you should show it off.  But ALWAYS wear something in Free Chat.  (LiveJasmin does NOT allow nudity in free chat.)

In terms of location, the bed is the obvious first choice.  After your get more comfortable, you can try Camming Outside The Bedroom.

Overcoming your insecurities is a different question altogether.  I’m going to be completely honest.  Webcam modeling is NOT for everyone.  Having said that, it’s completely natural to feel a little insecure (at least at first) about getting on cam to flirt and strip for a stranger.

I’ve already talked about the psychology of webcam modeling in The Sexually Confident Webcam Model post.  If you haven’t read it yet, I suggest you start there.  (Make sure you do the exercises!)

Another thing you can do to overcome your shyness is get online every day for two weeks straight.  You don’t have to be online long, even an hour/day is enough if you’re new to cam modeling.  Getting outside your comfort zone like this has a way of eliminating insecurities.  After two weeks, ask yourself the following:

  1. Are you insecurities fading?  Or getting worse?
  2. Do you think you could learn to enjoy this kind of work?

Although this blog is dedicated to promoting webcam modeling, the truth is that sometimes this job can really suck.  There will be those times when you just want to reach out and strangle your Free Chatters for not paying you for private.

However, if you are confident on webcam (experience helps a lot!) and you don’t allow your visitors to get under your skin, then you really can enjoy your job.

Insecurities are temporary.  One thing you’ll learn about camming is that you’ll either sink or swim.  If you can’t take the heat, then you might want to seek other employment.  On the other hand, if you can break through your insecurities, then you will enjoy your work more, and have more money in the bank.

Special thanks to Oscar for taking the time to email me.  If you have a webcam model question, or if you have an experience to share with my readers, please contact me.
